The Iconic McLaren Gulf Livery

Last week at the 2021 Monaco Grand Prix, McLaren's F1 team debuted their "one off" Gulf livery. This continues the tradition of Formula 1 teams preparing a special look for their marquee race of the season. The Gulf livery has roots that go all the way back to Ford GT40's of the 1960's and then reappeared in McLaren's return to LeMans on the legendary McLaren F1 GTR in 1997.

The move to make such style change came as a direct result from fan's input and tremendous support for concept drawings from artists online. And given the history of the current partnership with Gulf Oil, this was a bold but easy decision for the team from Woking. This project which started back in August of 2020 and the color scheme and design were finalized in February 2021. The stunning design pays homage to the history and heritage of the brand; and set's the benchmark for livery design in F1 "in my humble opinoin."
